The Bible tells us about some people who had personal and authentic relationship with God, like Moses, Elijah, Enoch and some other great prophetes and apostles in the old and new testaments. These three men Moses, Elijah and Enoch touched the heart of God at the point of taking them to heaven before the due time of going to heaven. Elijah and Enoch did not even die. The Bible tells us that God took them to heaven.
You can take only your friends to your place! Those were the best friends of God and this shows us that it is possible to have a personal authentic relationship with God.
When can a personal relationship with God be authentic?
A personal relationship can be authentic or not authentic.
It is authentic when two parts involved, engage themselves willingly into a relationship. In all other different cases, it may be a relationship but which is not authentic.
So, how can someone have a personal and authentic relationship with God?
There are steps to follow. Our God is a very organized God. Nothing happens by accident!
God chooses people. People do not choose God. It's God who selects. Abraham did not choose God, it's God who chose him. In 1John4:10 says that we did not love God, but He loved us.
The chosen people must accept God's calling. God never forces people to accept His calling, He let you know about His calling then it's up to you to accept it or to reject it. God always gives choices to people and He can never influence their choice. You accept it or reject it. He only explains to you what He does for you if you accept it and what He will not do if you don't do so.
God sets laws to follow or gives instructions to follow. You accepted His calling, then there are instructions to follow. He presents them to you.
You must accept to follow the instructions, and accept willingly from your heart. Here it's like a contract you are signing. You take your responsability to partner with God.
God trains you towards His laws. You accepted His instructions but sometime it's hard to do them exactly as God wishes. God is omnipotent, but He can not force you to do His will. He trains your character and searches your heart to be sure if He is puting His trust in a trustful person.
Here, He just needs your consent and will, then He helps you with the actions. That's the difference with the wordly commitments. They want you to prove them that you are able to perform well on the post they gave you. God doesn't choose the qualified, He qualifes the chosen (1Corinthians1:27-29).
He just needs a willing heart, a heart that pleases Him, and He helps the person by entering into Him, acting through him and the before weaked person, becomes strong and great, because the one inside of him is great.
The last point, you can then live or experience the real authentic relationship with God. You can hear His voice, feel His presence. He is the father and you are His son. You know what He likes, you've learned to please Him in everything that you do (1Thessalonians4). You know when you make Him angry and what to do again to gain His trust. You've died to sin and it's no longer you who lives but Christ in you that lives(Galatians 2:20). At this level you have a personal authentic relationship with God.
I would like to recommend the book of Kay Arthur for the best understanding.
